The Russian House in Baku Has Suspended its Operations

The Russian cultural center, “the Russian House in Baku”, announced that it is initiating the suspension of its activities following a request from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Anadolu Agency reported on February 11th.

In response to the request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo – the Russian House in Baku- is taking measures to halt its operations,

-the organization stated on Facebook.

Earlier that day, the Russian House reported that the removal of inscriptions from the building housing the organization had begun.

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Ayhan Hajizadeh stated that Baku had issued a note to Russia on February 3rd, requesting the closure of the Russian House due to its lack of registration as a legal entity.

Yevgeny Primakov, head of the Russian cultural center, acknowledged receiving the note from Azerbaijan and stressed the importance of the Russian House complying with local law by obtaining legal registration.

Primakov added that the Russian House in Azerbaijan must vacate its rented premises within the next one and a half months. The landlord plans to sell the property soon.

The Russian House is a government agency that strengthens Russia’s ties with CIS countries. It promotes the Russian language, culture, and education abroad. Additionally, it supports the Russian diaspora and engages in international development and humanitarian projects.
