According to the Houthi, U.S. attacks on Yemen on March 15 resulted in 53 casualties, as U.S. President Trump escalated military operations to restore commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
Posting on Truth Social, President Trump stated:
The Houthis have choked off shipping in one of the most important waterways of the world, grinding vast swaths of global commerce to a halt, and attacking the core principle of freedom of navigation upon which international trade and commerce depend.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that the U.S. would continue targeting the Houthi until they cease their threats to shipping.
The White House published an article outlining Houthi attacks on international shipping and their effects on global trade, including the decline in Red Sea and Suez Canal transits. While no Houthi attacks on merchant vessels have been reported this year, ships continue to avoid the southern Red Sea due to the risk of sudden escalation in the region.
