Putin about Taliban: Russia’s “Ally” Against Terrorism

On Thursday, July 4th, Vladimir Putin described the Taliban, the governing force in Afghanistan, as a partner in the fight against terrorism, The Express Tribune reports on July 4th.

During a press briefing in Astana, Kazakhstan, Putin emphasized the need for “constant attention” from Russia and the international community to address Afghanistan’s ongoing issues.

Generally, we have to proceed from the fact that the Taliban control power in the country. In this sense, the Taliban are certainly our allies in the fight against terrorism, because any acting government is concerned with the stability of its administration and the state it governs,

-Putin emphasised.

The Russian leader mentioned that Moscow has received indications from the Taliban expressing their willingness to collaborate in the fight against terrorism.
