Portugal: Police Seizes 800 Kilos of Cocaine Hidden in Banana Boxes

PJ [Portuguese Criminal Investigation Police] seized 800 kilograms of high-purity cocaine concealed within shipments of banana boxes arriving from Colombia at the Port of Setúbal, Público reports on June 15th.

According to a statement, the PJ conducted the seizure through its National Unit to Combat Drug Trafficking during a preventive operation at the Port of Setúbal on Friday, June 14th. The police reported that the cocaine had been concealed within banana boxes, stacked on pallets in one of the ship’s holds.

Subsequent to the seizure, a criminal investigation was initiated. The statement noted that this effort was undertaken “in close collaboration with Colombian authorities.”
