On May 16, the four parties forming the next government released their coalition agreement. Titled ‘Hope, Courage and Pride,’ it was agreed upon by the Party for Freedom (PVV), the Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), the Farmer–Citizen Movement (BBB), and the New Social Contract (NSC), European Council on Refugees and Exiles reports on May, 17th.

The planned measures for asylum and migration are detailed in a section called ‘Getting a grip on asylum and migration,’ with the following translated headlines:
- Activation of the “exception provision” of the 2000 Aliens Act
- Introduction of a temporary Asylum Crisis Act
- Submission of a request for an opt-out from the Common European Asylum System
- Transformation into one of the EU member states with the “strictest admission rules in Europe”
- Introduction of measures to manage “other” forms of migration
ECRE member organizations, the Dutch Council for Refugees and the Foundation for Refugee Students (UAF), have released statements regarding the coalition agreement.
