Princess Lalla Latifa, the widow of the late King Hassan II of Morocco and mother of the current monarch from the Alawi dynasty, died on Saturday, June 29th, at the age of 78, Atalayar reports on June 29th.

The spokesman for the Royal Palace of the Alaouite Kingdom announced the news through its official media. In a statement issued by MAP (Moroccan Press Agency), official sources from the neighbouring country confirmed the death of Hassan II’s former wife.

Born in 1946, Lalla Latifa was the second wife of King Hassan II, who had no children with his first wife. Together, they had five children: Princess Lalla Meryem, the current King of Morocco Mohammed VI, Princess Lalla Asma, Princess Lalla Hasna, and Prince Mulay Rachid.
