ITA announced plans to operate two direct weekly flights between Rome’s Fiumicino Airport and Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport.

Andrea Benassi, ITA Airways general manager stated:

We are proud to inaugurate today our first direct commercial flight between Tripoli and Rome Fiumicino, strengthening commercial and cultural ties between Libya and Italy in support of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Since the 2014 civil war in Libya, many international airlines have suspended flights to and from the country. The conflict led to the emergence of two rival administrations in the east and west, following the NATO-supported uprising that ousted Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
