Georgia: President Supports Protests Following the Ruling Party’s Election Victory

On Sunday, October 27th, Georgia’s president announced she does not recognize the results of this weekend’s parliamentary vote, which election officials reported was won by the ruling party, PBS News reports on October 27th. She added that the country had fallen victim to a “Russian special operation” intended to derail its path toward Europe.

She spoke a day after an election that could determine whether Georgia aligns with Europe or falls under Russia’s influence.

This election cannot be recognized, as it signifies acceptance of Russia’s interference here and Georgia’s subordination to Russia,

-Zourabichvili stated.

The Central Election Commission announced on Sunday that the ruling party, Georgian Dream, received 54.8 percent of Saturday’s vote. This result is based on nearly 100 percent of ballots counted.
