China and Azerbaijan Establish a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Beijing on April 23rd. The two leaders announced the launch of a comprehensive strategic partnership between their countries, according to the Global Times.

During the meeting, Xi stressed the importance of deepening political trust, boosting practical cooperation, and enhancing international coordination. He said both nations should work together to open a new chapter in bilateral relations.

Xi reaffirmed China’s support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. He also expressed support for Azerbaijan’s chosen path of development.

The Chinese president highlighted the need for stronger cooperation in law enforcement and security. He pledged to jointly combat terrorism, extremism, and separatism.

He also called for closer alignment of national development strategies and deeper collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative. Xi encouraged expanded ties in education, culture, tourism, youth exchanges, and local partnerships.

Aliyev praised the growing relationship, saying both countries have maintained mutual respect and trust amid global changes. He noted rapid progress in economic ties and a rise in regional and cultural exchanges.
