Brazil Acknowledges Morocco’s Diplomatic Progress in Sahara

Several Argentine media outlets spotlighted Brazil’s recent endorsement of the Sahara autonomy initiative over the weekend, portraying it as the pinnacle of Morocco’s diplomatic successes in recent years, Agence Marocaine de Presse reports on June 9th.

The “El desafio semanario” news site pointed out that in 2024, there will be a peak of support for the autonomy initiative as the most effective solution to the conflict instigated from Algeria for other motives.

Listing recent achievements in backing the Moroccan stance, the nacionweb.com.ar emphasized the notable support from the United States, France, and Spain. It also noted the recent reiteration of support from two Caribbean nations, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the Commonwealth of Dominica, for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and its territorial integrity.

corrientesdetarde.com and diarioeldelegado.com.ar are two additional Argentine media outlets that highlighted Japan’s supportive position, stating that Japan “welcomes serious and credible Moroccan efforts” concerning the autonomy initiative for the Moroccan Sahara.

The sources also reported two new memberships on the African continent: Liberia, reiterating its backing for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and Sierra Leone, endorsing the Autonomy Initiative as the sole “credible, serious, and realistic” resolution to the conflict.

Lastly, agencialegislativa.com highlighted a letter from around thirty British MPs to Foreign Secretary David Cameron, urging swift recognition of the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the sole viable, serious, and realistic solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
