Azerbaijani President Aliyev announced on Friday, June 28th, the dissolution of the country’s parliament, setting September 1st as the date for early parliamentary elections, Anadolu Agency reports on June 28th. The presidential decree detailing these decisions was posted on the Azerbaijani presidential website.
This move follows a ruling by the Azerbaijani Constitutional Court on Thursday, June 27th, which deemed the parliament’s dissolution and the call for snap elections as “legitimate.” The ruling came in response to a request from Yeni Azerbaijan, the ruling political party.
