Algeria and Russia Clash at UN Over Gender Issues in Olympic Boxing

Russia and Algeria exchanged sharp diplomatic jabs during a United Nations Security Council session on August 7th, The Arab Weekly reports on August 8th. The confrontation arose after Russia brought up an Olympic boxing gender controversy during a meeting focused on women, peace, and security.

Deputy Russian UN Ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy accused Western countries of monopolizing the Olympic movement and “aggressively” pushing an LGBT agenda, which he claimed was harming women’s rights and dignity.

At the Olympic Games in Paris female boxers are being publicly subjected to violence (by) athletes who had previously failed hormonal tests done by the International Boxing Federation and, according to the Federation and according to common sense, are men.

This is absolutely repellant.

Algerian representative Iman Khelif won the Olympic boxing championship in the women’s 66 kg weight category, securing a 5-0 victory over China’s Yang Liu in the final.

Earlier, Iman was falsely accused of being transgender and fraudulently competing in the Olympics, allegations that were baseless and intended to tarnish her reputation.
