The National Federation of Trade Unions of Public and Social Workers has initiated an overtime strike at the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) citing inadequate staffing levels, The Portugal News reports on August 12th.
We demand the permanent integration of all mediators currently performing ongoing work, as the present arrangement amounts to illegal contracted labor,
-said Artur Cerqueira.
Cerqueira also emphasized that AIMA workers are “being pressured to work overtime,” noting that “a civil servant cannot refuse to work extra hours”.

The strike notice period is set from August 22 to December 31, Artur Cerqueira explained:
From this point forward, each worker can choose whether or not to accept overtime hours,
-he added.
The FNSTFPS’s list of demands justifying the strike highlights several issues at AIMA, including the absence of internal regulations, poor communication within the agency, and “undersized” teams, leading to excessive workloads, elevated stress, and heightened anxiety levels.
