The Taliban has introduced a new rule banning women from hearing other women’s voices, Daily Mail reports on October 29th. This move is seen as part of a broader effort to control and suppress women in Afghanistan. Announced on Monday, October 28th, the rule has sparked concerns that women may no longer be permitted to speak to one another. Many worry this restriction could effectively silence women in public and private spaces.

Khalid Hanafi, the minister for the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice, clarified the rule further. He stated that “even when an adult woman is praying, if another woman passes by, she must pray quietly enough that her voice cannot be heard”.
How could they be allowed to sing if they aren’t even permitted to hear [each other’s] voices while praying, let alone for anything else,
-he also added to his statement.
Hanafi also stated that these are “new rules that will be gradually implemented, with God supporting us at every step”. The Taliban warned that any woman who defies the new rules will be arrested and imprisoned.
