An Azerbaijan Airlines passenger jet carrying 67 people crashed on Wednesday in western Kazakhstan. The incident occurred after the aircraft veered off its scheduled route, France 24 reports on December 25.
Kazakh authorities reported that 28 people survived the crash of the Embraer 190 near Aktau, an oil and gas hub located on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea.
The plane was en route from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan on the western shore of the Caspian Sea, to Grozny, southern Russia.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev shortened his visit to Russia, where he was scheduled to attend an informal summit of Commonwealth of Independent States leaders.
