Ukrainian Official: Boycott COP29 Summit in Baku

A senior Ukrainian diplomat told POLITICO that the international community should boycott the COP29 climate summit in Azerbaijan, Politico reports on October 16th. The call for a boycott comes if Russian President Vladimir Putin is in attendance.

We need to exert this pressure and our partners need to make it clear to Azerbaijan that, if Putin is there, they aren’t coming,

-Ukraine’s ambassador to the EU, Vsevolod Chentsov, stated in an interview.

Chentsov’s appeal follows the Kremlin’s announcement on Tuesday, October 15th, that Putin is considering attending the annual UN -backed climate summit. The event is set to begin on November 11th in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated to the Russian state-run news outlet RIA Novosti that a decision has not been made yet.
