Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed to seek revenge on Israel following the assassination of Hamas’ political chief, Euronews reported on July 31st. The shocking killing threatens to further escalate the ongoing conflict.
Khamenei stated that Israel “prepared a harsh punishment for itself” after Ismail Haniyeh was killed in a predawn airstrike in Tehran, Iran, on Wednesday, July 31st.
“We consider it our duty to avenge his death” Khamenei said in a statement on his official website, referring to Haniyeh as “a dear guest in our home”.
His remarks followed Hamas’s direct accusation that Israel was responsible for the attack.
