Tens of thousands protested in Armenia’s capital on Sunday, demanding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation. The outcry follows Armenia’s decision to transfer control of several border villages to Azerbaijan, Al Arabiya English reports on May, 26th.
The demonstration was the latest in a weeks-long series of gatherings led by Bagrat Galstanyan, an archbishop of the Tavush diocese in the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Bagrat Galstanyan launched the movement Tavush For The Homeland after Armenia agreed in April to cede control of four villages to Azerbaijan. While the villages remain the movement’s central issue, it has grown to address broader discontent with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his government. At Sunday’s rally, movement leaders endorsed Galstanyan as the next prime minister.
Earlier, Pashinyan has stated that Armenia must quickly define its border with Azerbaijan to prevent further hostilities.
